Roy Cooper – Attorney General – Democrat
Head of the Department of Justice, the Attorney General is the top law enforcement officer and top lawyer of the state.
According to the department’s website, duties range from representing the state in all criminal appeals to providing legal representation and advice to all state departments, agencies and commissions.
Cooper served as a state senator from 1991-2001, and in the state House of Representatives 1987-91.
Running unopposed, Cooper will be elected to his fourth term after serving since 2001.
