Fedora shocked by Oklahoma State allegations

North Carolina football coach Larry Fedora, offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State from 2005-07, responded to a litany of allegations made against the program in a Sports Illustrated investigative series after practice Wednesday.

“It was shocking to me,” said Fedora, who coached under current head coach Mike Gundy. “But I also understand it’s accusations and allegations. That’s what they are. They’re allegations. So whether or not there’s any truth to them or not, I don’t know, but I do believe this – I believe (Oklahoma State president) Burns Hargis, I believe (Oklahoma State athletic director) Mike Holder, I believe they will be aggressive and I think they’ll be transparent in their investigations.

“And I think if there is any wrongdoings, I have complete faith that they’ll get it straightened out and they’ll accept whatever’s coming to them and they’ll move on down the road.”

The five-part series alleges that, among other things, football players between 2000-11 were provided with a variety of improper benefits, ranging from money to academic shortcuts to drug use.

Fedora said that while he was at the program, he never saw anything suspicious.

“There was no doubt on my mind and every guy on that staff that it was clear from that administration and Mike Gundy that you were going to do things right there,” Fedora said. “No doubt.”

Fedora said that he’s talked with both UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham and wide receivers coach Gunter Brewer about the allegations. Brewer was also with Oklahoma State, serving various roles on the coaching staff from 2005-10.

Fedora has not been named in the two parts released through Wednesday.
