At roughly 1 a.m. Wednesday, a UNC student was robbed at gunpoint — the second time this has happened in less than a week.
But unlike last Friday's armed robbery, Wednesday morning's event did not prompt an emergency siren on campus.
Last Friday's armed robbery took place near Ehringhaus Residence Hall, according to AlertCarolina, while this week's was at the intersection of Henderson Street and North Street — about a five-minute walk to campus and Franklin Street and an area heavily populated by students.
Today's victim, who was a UNC student, was approached by two men in a dark-colored Jeep, according to the release. The first man showed a handgun and took a backpack and wallet. The second man approached the student and took his cellphone.
The victim reported one of the suspects was around 6 feet tall while the second was a little shorter, according to the release.
This comes after an armed robbery was reported on Friday near Eringhaus Residence Hall around 12:40 a.m. The suspect stole $185 in items from the victim in that incident.
UNC spokesperson Randy Young said the siren was not sounded because the two reported suspects Wednesday morning left in their car going away from the campus area.
"It was not an ongoing imminent threat to the Chapel Hill community," he said.
The AlertCarolina for Wednesday morning's armed robbery was not sent to students until 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, more than 14 hours after it occurred.
