View from the Hill: SNL creates "Melanianade" and tackles the second debate

Few things shook the earth to its core like Beyonce’s "Lemonade," but Saturday Night Live's spoof, "Melanianade," proves to be a brilliant and evocative sequel.

This week comedians Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon, Sasheer Zamata, Vanessa Bayer and host Emily Blunt channeled the ladies of the Trump Campaign — and the challenges of their continued support.

Donning luscious wigs and gowns rivaling Beyonce’s original costumes, Melania Trump (Strong), Ivanka Trump (Blunt), Tiffany Trump (Vanessa Bayer), Kellyanne Conway (McKinnon) and Omarosa Manigault (Zamata) bemoaned their grievances about the controversy of last week’s leaked audio tape

The Trump loyalists danced and sang to the tune of Beyonce’s “Sorry” while also embracing the opportunity to reinvent Beyonce’s lyrics to reflect the 2016 election’s chaos.

Tiffany shared her anguish of living life in Ivanka’s shadow and never being Donald’s favorite.

Omarosa consoled Tiffany and they sipped on a cup of tea.

Then Omarosa put things in her own hands and turned in her "resignation."

Even Trump's loyal daughter Ivanka conveyed her dismay over the inevitable end of her beloved friendship with Chelsea Clinton.

The spoof ended with Melania claiming she wrote the entire song all by herself. #typicalmelania

“Melanianade” was not SNL’s only political offering of the night. This week’s cold open featured the second presidential debate between Trump (Alec Baldwin) and Clinton (McKinnon).

The sketch satirized Trump’s awkward behavior in the town hall debate with Baldwin looming in the background and then quickly charging McKinnon.

This week marked the breaking point for Trump who responded to the sketch by tweeting his dissatisfaction with Baldwin’s portrayal.

With three more weekends until election day, only time will tell what new comedy SNL can create amidst a political reality that already feels like its own sketch.
