Four-star recruit Payton Wilson commits to North Carolina football

Payton Wilson, 247Sports' No. 2 outside linebacker recruit and No. 37 overall recruit in the country, committed to North Carolina today over Ohio State, Virginia Tech and defending national champion Clemson.

Wilson, a four-star recruit, is a rising senior at Orange High School in Hillsborough. Last year, he totaled 127 tackles, 39 tackles for loss, 13 sacks, 4 pass breakups and an interception in 13 games.

The 6-foot-4, 225-pound linebacker also showcased his versatility with 756 rushing yards, 305 receiving yards and 16 total touchdowns.

Like many top recruits, Wilson is a multi-sport athlete. He wrestled and played lacrosse for the Panthers this year, too. And UNC's Larry Fedora was the only head coach to attend one of those lacrosse games.

An extra effort like that can mean all the difference in a recruiting battle. And for North Carolina, it may have made all the difference.
