Maybe Starbucks will sponsor this newsletter.

As fall fast approaches and our lord and savior, Starbucks, rolls out its seasonal drinks, it's inevitable that we'll all talk about the Pumpkin Spice Latte. And yo, PSL, I'm really happy for you. Imma let you finish, but Salted Caramel Mocha is one of the best Starbucks drinks of all time. One of the best drinks. Of. All. Time.

I apologize for old meme-ing at you this morning, but I'm serious — this year, I'm launching a personal campaign to give my favorite overpriced not-coffee its time to shine in pop culture. #SCM2015

QUICK HITS

  • Researchers at UNC might have figured out how they can slow down the progression of Parkinson's disease.
  • An entrepreneurial class in the B-School raised about $35,000 for a Make-A-Wish fund for Aiden, a 12-year-old with cystic fibrosis at UNC Hospitals.
  • The Catholic Church's accepted reasons for divorce remain the same, but Pope Francis used his declared Year of Mercy to streamline the process for unhappy couples.
  • The General Assembly finally finalized a budget and will vote on it this week. It took more than two months, but a state budget is better late than never. Sort of like a period.

IN CAMPUS NEWS

Silent Sam has apparently had security cameras for over two months. The two cameras and their installation cost the Department of Public Safety $3,600 to keep watch over the Confederate monument. Honestly, the average sledge hammer on Amazon is like $30, and I would've used it for free. Just seems economical.

IN THE CLANDESTINE TWITTER ELITE

We sat down for a Q&A with the disembodied voice of @UNC on Twitter. Despite my initial inclination, it's not run by the restless spirit of John Motley Morehead III through a Ouija board extension for HootSuite — but this Philip Jones dude is cool, too, I guess.

IN TOWN NEWS

More than 1,000 Burmese refugees have found a home in Orange County. If long form is your thing, this piece is so, so good. Refugees are often relieved to be in America for the first few months, but in a lot of places, support and resources run out fast. And although it's an enormous struggle, Chapel Hill and Carrboro have a lot of organizations available for their refugee populations — from tutoring children in school to farming to generate income.

IN OUR OPINION

If you're reading this, I'm gonna guess you're addicted to coffee, too. Let's be efficient about it. America throws out almost 58 billion cups every year — and after some preliminary math and consultation from the Franklin Street Starbucks, I can say with certainty that 430 of those are my bad. Let's do better. Mugs are the easiest presents to give to side friends, anyway.

IN THE BLOGS

The temperature dropped below 60 degrees this week, awakening the pumpkin spice gods from their slumber. With everyone's favorite Starbucks drink (aside from Salted Caramel Mocha) back in season, we offer a breakdown of six different PSLs you can try out. Beauty truly comes in all shapes, sizes and calorie counts.

If, somehow, there's ever a day you can't find anything to eat in the dining hall, we got you. So against all odds, there's nothing that resembles being edible in the dining hall today — no need to waste your swipe. Let us help you go straight up Pinterest on Top of Lenoir with these four dining hall life hacks.
