The North Carolina volleyball team had its share of supporters Friday night in Carmichael Arena, even with a NSCAA Game of the Week soccer game taking place just outside of the arena’s doors.
Former North Carolina volleyball players were in attendance for the game against Wake Forest for Alumni Night and watched the team take down Wake Forest in three straight sets — 25-22, 25-16 and 25-14.
The game started off a bit slow for the Tar Heels, but with a lively student section behind them, two full sections of fans in front of them and an entire group of previous players right beside them, the Heels managed to come back from a 19 -13 deficit in the first set and go on to sweep Wake Forest with the next two sets.
Some chalk up home-field advantage as a superstition or myth, but coach Joe Sagula acknowledged the home-court advantage after the game.
“It’s good to come back,” Sagula said. “I think you can do that at home. It’s hard to do that on the road — their gym in particular.”
