Just three games into year, the North Carolina football team is already looking toward its schedule beyond the 2013 season.
UNC announced the completion of its 2014 non-conference schedule Thursday, adding two home games against Liberty Aug. 30 and San Diego State Sept. 6. The Tar Heels are also set to play two non-conference games on the road against East Carolina Sept. 20 and Notre Dame — both of which were previously.
North Carolina has only played San Diego State once before as the Tar Heels defeated the Aztecs 20-13 in the 1998 Las Vegas Bowl. UNC has never faced Liberty in football.
The athletic department also announced the football team has agreed on a two-year home-and-home football series with Big Ten Conference member Illinois.
The Tar Heels will play Illinois in Chapel Hill Sept. 19, 2015 before traveling to face the Fighting Illini in Memorial Stadium Sept. 10, 2016.
The two teams have only had two previous meetings with the last coming in 1987 — a 34-14 Tar Heel victory at Kenan Stadium. UNC also defeated Illinois in 1971 in a 27-0 road shutout.
