The Daily Tar Heel

As a meeting of the Honor Court ended late Thursday, a reporter for The Daily Tar Heel was asked to leave the premises of the Student and Academic Services Building — a public space he had a right to be in.

The DTH received a call from Chancellor Holden Thorp asking that the reporter go so a football player could leave his hearing unidentified.

The Honor Court has a responsibility to protect the privacy of individuals being tried. But protecting their rights should not threaten the rights of others.

The University shouldn’t be in the business of asking students to leave public buildings, even as they protect identities during the investigation.

Here’s a mask for those whose identity needs to be protected.

And at the DTH, in accordance with our legal rights, we won’t stop reporting to the best of our ability.
