TO THE EDITOR:
Dude, if you’re going to critique Dan Savage, at least get it right. Savage’s campaign against Rick Santorum is fueled by Santorum’s blatant homophobia and desire to institute that homophobia into U.S. law. That being said, there are a number of other things that make Savage problematic.
Despite posturing himself as a leader within the LGBT community, he has on several occasions made bigoted comments about bisexual, asexual and transgender people. In one column, he blamed African-Americans for the passing of Proposition 8. Despite considerable backlash from the LGBT community, he has refused to disavow his statements or recognize his privileged position as an upper-middle class, white male.
