Business interests say election was worth it

November 4, 2009

The only candidate running on a business-oriented platform to win Tuesday night was Town Council member-elect Gene Pease.

But although the mayoral candidate for the business interests lost Tuesday, Matt Czajkowski’s supporters maintain that their efforts were not in vain.

Jon DeHart, who came up short in the council race, congratulated the winners, and said he hopes the new council will register the concerns of the business community, considering the tight election results.

“Without a doubt we made our voices heard,” he said.

And Bruce Ballentine said the 46.5 percent of the electorate that voted for Czajkowski cannot be ignored.

“It’s interesting to note that no one got 50 percent,” said Ballentine. “What that tells me is that no one should think they have a clear mandate. There’s still two voices in the town.”

DeHart maintains that if Kevin Wolff's and Augustus Cho's votes had gone to Czajkowski, then Czajkowski could have won.

But it's over.
