During the debate, the candidates will be asked diverse and challenging questions by Blue & White and DTH moderators.
Campus media outlets will then have the opportunity to ask the questions that matter to each organization in the press conference after the debate.
This media event fills a void in the campaign process by allowing the interests of a wide variety of UNC organizations to be addressed at one time.
Rather than tailor their comments to the particular group sponsoring the debate, the student body president candidates will be forced to discuss issues from very angle and to recognize every point of view.
Blue & White publisher Ryan Newton said the goal of the event is to bring University groups together in the 2001 student body president election process.
"By having all the media outlets present, the candidates will be asked questions representative of all students, not just of a few," Newton said.
The Blue & White/The Daily Tar Heel Student Body Presidential Debate and Press Conference is open to all student media groups.
All are strongly encouraged to attend in order to expand the variety of issues discussed.
The press conference will immediately follow the debate.
