Bentley's departure marks the third time in the past year that a wrestler has left the UNC program.
Skyler Holman transferred to Oklahoma State before the season started and Chuckie Connor left the program in January.
UNC coach Bill Lam released Bentley from the UNC program last Wednesday.
"Oklahoma State is one of the best programs in the nation and one of the best programs of all time," Bentley said. "It will be a good situation for me."
The Newland native was named ACC Wrestler of the Year after compiling a 30-3 overall record.
But Bentley did not attain his ultimate goal of winning an NCAA Championship, losing in the first round.
Bentley hopes the transfer will change that sort of outcome.
"Going to Oklahoma State is going to give me the best chance to reach my goals," Bentley said. "Leaving was just something I needed to do.
"I've been thinking about leaving for a while. I can't pinpoint one thing because I've been debating transferring all year."
