Dale Earnhardt was a man who meant so much to the state of North Carolina and to many other people across the nation. He single-handedly turned NASCAR into what it is today (one of the most popular sports in the U.S.) and brought many new fans to the sport, some who would have never predicted they would be a NASCAR fan one day. He was to NASCAR as Michael Jordan was to the NBA and to Carolina basketball. Yes, I understand that we have the No. 1 basketball team in the nation, and we got upset on the same day that this racing legend died, but please let's not take someone of this magnitude for granted. His family, fans (including myself) and legacy deserved so much more than a small paragraph on the tenth page of The Daily Tar Heel. Dale "The Intimidator" Earnhardt might have wanted it that way, but we all know he deserved so much more.
