As a Clemson University engineering student, I have always valued the education that I am receiving, but it has been lacking when it comes to diversity. Maybe it is the military tradition of the school or the idea that it was built on a foundation of a fading cotton plantation, but Clemson has been viewed as a school fit for white Southern males.
The world is rapidly advancing, and the administration at Clemson does a good job to help foster a more diverse atmosphere for all students. It seems that by accepting such a column as David Horowitz's (April 2) UNC, not just the Daily Tar Heel, is digressing toward a past that inhibits the diversity that has been established.
Your staff should think next time, not of the publicity of such an article, but of the damage it does to the individuals who are part of North Carolina as well as to the school's image.
