Roberts, who is 2-0 with a team-best 3.00 ERA on the season, came out of the bullpen in his first three pitching appearances of the season before flourishing in three straight starts.
Roberts earned a no-decision March 28 against Winthrop, but got wins in North Carolina's victories at N.C. State on April 2 and at Maryland on Sunday.
After UNC won the first game of the April 2 doubleheader against the Wolfpack 16-7, Roberts helped lead UNC to an 8-7 win in the second game for the two-game sweep. Roberts struck out five and allowed just three runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings to hold off the Wolfpack.
On Sunday against the Terps, Roberts surrendered three runs on four hits while striking out two in seven innings to improve to 2-0.
Roberts, UNC's regular starter in right field, also was 4-for-8 with four RBI and three runs in the Maryland series. On Sunday, Roberts had a three-run homer in North Carolina's
16-9 victory.
Gormsen Earns Lacrosse Honor
North Carolina defenseman Bobby Gormsen earns this week's ACC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week honor after leading the Tar Heels' defensive effort in a win against ACC rival Virginia.
Gormsen anchored the North Carolina defense as the No. 19 Tar Heels upset No. 4 Virginia, 7-5. The five goals allowed were the fewest allowed by UNC in an ACC game since April 24, 1992, when the Tar Heels topped Virginia 14-5 in the ACC tournament.
