North Carolina's Marlene Mejia earned this week's ACC women's tennis player of the week honor.
Mejia, 14th-ranked nationally, finished last week with victories against No. 2 Ansley Cargill of Duke, Virginia's Henriette Williams and Maryland's Delila Causevic. Mejia's only loss of the week was to No. 6 Bea Bielik of Wake Forest.
The sophomore from Lansdale, Pa., improved her singles record to 28-10 overall and 11-5 at the No.1 spot. She is 4-1 at the No. 1 spot in the ACC and
3-2 at No. 2 doubles with Julie Rotondi.
Lacrosse Polls Released
The North Carolina men's lacrosse team jumped five spots in the STX/U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association poll released Monday.
UNC's 7-5 win against then-No. 4 Virginia last Saturday propelled the Tar Heels up to 14th in this week's ranking.
The women, who play No. 12 James Madison at Fetzer Field at 5 p.m. today, remain ranked No. 6 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association poll, released late Monday. The Tar Heels are ranked sixth this week despite losing 15-9 at home to No. 5 Georgetown on Saturday.
