The Daily Tar Heel

The Lowdown on Tonight's Basketball Game

Game:

Time: 7:30 p.m.

Location: Chapel Hill

Radio: 100.7 FM, WCHL-1360 AM

Television: None

Series Record: UNC leads 2-0

Keys for UNC: The Tar Heels will need Jason Capel to not be rusty. Kris Lang has been too offensively responsible for UNC in the preseason, and Brian Morrison has been his only teammate stepping up to help shoulder the burden. With Capel back, that should change, but more selective shooting would help open up the middle more. UNC shot 57 3-pointers in its two exhibition games, one of which it lost by 31 points to the

EA Sports All-Stars. The Tar Heels also can't take Hampton, which made it as far as UNC in the 2001 NCAA Tournament, too lightly. In their last meeting, UNC managed an 86-75 win on the road three years ago.

Keys for Hampton: The Pirates also lost most of their scoring from last year's MEAC championship squad. Senior Tommy Adams (10.2 ppg) and junior Isaac Jefferson (5.4 ppg) are the only returning starters. They'll need help from junior Cleveland Davis, who played significant minutes off the bench last season, and others to keep up with UNC. Smart decision-making with the basketball could take advantage of UNC's defense.

Prediction: UNC 75, Hampton 66
