Something is wrong with TPAC's numbers. How is it that $2 million dollars is needed to balance the budget when they're only crying about $700,000 in lost revenue?
We all know that the parking "services" (who serve themselves, first and foremost) are writing more tickets than that, not to mention all the revenue garnered from parking meters that run until 9:30 p.m. and of course, parking permits. I assume that figure is after overhead is taken out? There's a lot of sleight of hand going on here.
If UNC goes to night parking permits, that will mean that the ticket writers will be out at night as well -- what a racket! Fare-free doesn't mean "cost-free," it just means that people who eschew public transportation will be made to shoulder the costs for those who do not because the Marxists and car-haters alike think that's the way it should be.
