UNC Grapplers Win Two Against ACC Foes

After the Tar Heels (10-2, 3-0 in the ACC) and the Terrapins split the first four bouts, UNC pulled away, capturing the next four matches.

UNC's Nick Richmond defeated UM's Bob Vorhies 13-4, at 197. In the heavyweight class, UNC's Ryan Adams downed sophomore Jeremy Duncan by a 5-2 decision.

UNC Throwers Continue Success

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Throwers Ibiene Bilaye-Benibo and Sal Gigante continued to made their marks on the UNC record books at the Tyson Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Center.

Bilaye-Benibo placed third in the shot put with a throw of 50 feet, 3 1/4 inches.

Gigante came in second in the weight throw with a toss of 64-5 3/4. He now has the top four throws in school history.

Middle distance runner Alice Schmidt took first place in the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 7.34 seconds, while jumper Adam Shunk tied for first in the high jump with a leap of 7-2 1/2.

Shalane Flanagan posted an NCAA automatic qualifying time, finishing fourth in the mile with a time of 4:38.43.

Gymnastics Takes 3rd in Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The North Carolina gymnastics team took home third in the four-team Governor's Cup meet Saturday. Monica Middleton placed seventh in the all-around with a score of 38.150. Anna Wilson won the floor exercises, earning a 9.925.

Freshman Olivia Trusty finished first in vault with a score of 9.875 and tied for first on bars with a 9.900.
