With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the second inning of Wednesday's game against Davidson, the North Carolina center fielder popped up Wildcat starter Mark Wells' first pitch behind the plate.
Wildcat catcher James Marino drifted toward the Boshamer Stadium backstop and camped under the ball, only to have it brush the screen and drop to the ground.
"I was fortunate to get another opportunity," Greenberg said. "I just told myself to stay back and get a good swing."
His next swing sent Wells' second pitch over the right-center field fence for a grand slam, breaking a 2-2 tie and staking the Tar Heels to a 9-2 win.
Greenberg's home run, his 10th, gave UNC (24-11) an early cushion, which it entrusted to starter Scott Manshack.
Manshack (4-0) responded with his best outing of the season, outpitching Wells (3-5) and leaving the Wildcats (13-21) without any answer for his repertoire of pitches.
Manshack tied a career high with eight strikeouts, three of which came on called third strikes in the sixth inning, and walked none.
"I felt good I didn't want walk anybody because I've walked a lot of guys lately," he said. "I didn't try to be too good. I just tried to hit my spots."
Wells did not fare as well. The Wildcat was touched for six runs in two innings, as Davidson dropped its fourth straight.
