Duke University Police arrested Samuel Ferebee, 62, of 130 E-8 S. Estes Drive, after a short chase, charging him with one count of resist, delay and obstruct of an officer, according to The (Duke) Chronicle, Duke's student newspaper. This was the second time he has been arrested in the last month.
Ferebee was arrested by University police March 27 for two counts of simple assault and one count of misdemeanor stalking.
Duke and UNC students were warned about Ferebee in a recent e-mail circulated on both campuses after several complaints surfaced that Ferebee was harassing students.
Since the March 27 incident, Ferebee has had a trespass order against him that forbids him from visiting UNC's campus except for public roadways. A similar provision allowed Duke police to arrest him when he came on the campus Friday.
According to a report in The Chronicle, Duke police responded at 3:10 p.m. Friday to a report from a student that Ferebee was walking near the chapel on Duke's West Campus. But officers were unable to locate Ferebee.
Additional officers responded when an officer reported seeing Ferebee park his car on Main Street and walk toward West Duke Building.
The Chronicle stated that another student reported seeing Ferebee in a classroom in West Duke, but while officers were searching the building, an employee reported that Ferebee came down the stairs and ran past him out the front door.
Officers then pursued Ferebee across Main Street toward the bridge that connects Duke's East and West campuses.
He was seen leaving the woods and entering the 900 Maxwell St. Facilities Warehouse. Duke and Durham police surrounded the building and found Ferebee hiding, The Chronicle reported.
