U.S. Bombing Missions Against Iraq Would Be Similar to Genocide

I refuse to point out that Mr. Sprehe's argument in the letters to the editor made the point that Saddam's actions in recent years have been termed by some as genocide while it is in fact true that a large-scale bombing of Iraq by American troops would actually be a genocide in the eyes of many nations.

I also refuse to point out to Mr. Sprehe that while we see Saddam as oppressive, American sanctions on Iraq have lead directly or indirectly to the death of 500,000 Iraqi children.

I will not point out to Mr. Sprehe that we don't need to know the terrain in Iraq the way we needed to in Vietnam because we will simply shoot from a distance at anything and everything we fear may be a threat to Americans or American "interests," be they baby formula factories, water treatment plants or military compounds.

I will not point out that if we knew the Iraqi terrain, we would have killed Saddam the first time.

I will point out however that a war in Iraq is as unprovoked as the war in Vietnam.

Lastly, I will point out that what we learned from Sept. 11, 2001, should not be that now our soldiers are ready to go to war but how much we do not desire to lose more American lives in conflicts stemming from Western control or Arab and Islamic recourses.

How often can we bomb Iraq in defense before the world realized that we want cheap oil and we attack the only strong military in the Middle East to show the other countries in the region that we can do it to them if they raise prices.
