I read the accounts of the midnight start of the basketball season, and I, like all of you, look forward to our return to prominence. One thing bothered me. I read several accounts of people "surprised" at Matt Doherty's shooting in the coaches versus students game.
In 1983, the defending national champs were trailing at the half 23-9 to LSU on a Sunday game. The entire team, even the great "Air Jordan," was stone cold. Matt came out in the second half and proceeded to drill, I believe it was 10 consecutive jump shots, to a victory. He might not have played in the NBA, but Matt has and will continue to contribute to Tar Heel basketball!
