On Friday, UNC gave No. 1 Stanford its first loss of the season, as the Tar Heels beat the Cardinal 1-0 in the first game of the 2002 Saint Mary's Fall Women's Soccer Classic.

The difference in the game came from Ramsey, who scored in the 60th minute of play.

Volleyball Off to Best Start Since 1981

ATLANTA -- The No. 11 North Carolina volleyball team played its second five-game match of the week, but hung on to top No. 23 Georgia Tech 3-2. The Tar Heels won 30-28, 15-30, 24-30, 30-23, 17-15 to improve to 15-1 overall, matching the team's best start ever when the 1981 team was also 15-1.

The Tar Heels are now 3-0 in the ACC. UNC coach Joe Sagula will be looking for his 100th ACC win of his career when the Tar Heels meet Duke on Thursday.

Terps Give Men's Soccer 2nd ACC Loss

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Two early goals and a diligent defensive effort gave the No. 13 Maryland men's soccer team a 3-1 victory against No. 21 North Carolina on Saturday night.

In the final minute of the game, Maryland's Dominic Mediate clinched the 3-1 Terrapin win after he won a footrace and took advantage of UNC's open net. Goalkeeper Ford Williams had left the goal to play offense in hopes of sending the game into overtime.

The Terrapins are now 9-2 (2-1 ACC), while the Tar Heels fell to 7-4 (1-2 ACC).
