On behalf of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the cancer patients and families we are proud to serve, I publicly thank Jonathan Holmes and Will Johnson for contributing their time and effort to the Carolina Cancer Focus 2002 3-on-3 charity basketball event. We are pleased the NCAA overturned the proposed suspension and that these two senior players will not suffer for their good deeds.
I also thank the UNC students who have formed and participate in Carolina Cancer Focus, an organization to help combat cancer. In addition to raising funds for research and for patients, these students volunteer at the clinical cancer center and conduct public awareness projects.
Many talk about apathy among today's college students. The students in Carolina Cancer Focus, Jonathan Holmes and Will Johnson are anything but. We should be proud of these students and their contributions.
