At a high-spirited Cabinet meeting Sunday night, Interim Student Body Secretary Matt Compton was introduced as the official selection for the previously vacant post.
Student Body President Jen Daum began the meeting by introducing Compton as student body secretary and also as "resident teddy bear."
Rebecca Williford, former student body secretary, resigned from her position Nov. 26, citing the worsening of persistent health problems.
Compton acted as the interim student body secretary until Dec. 6.
"I absolutely plan to finish the work that Rebecca started," Compton said. "She was a great secretary, and it's going to be hard to fill her shoes."
While Compton said he enjoyed his work as interim student body secretary, he said it was a rushed transition.
"Rebecca was there to help me along at the beginning," Compton said. "But it was a steep learning curve."
Compton was one of seven applicants for the position, but his familiarity with the position placed him in front of his competitors, said Rebekah Burford, Daum's chief of staff.
"He had a vast knowledge of what had been going on for the past nine months of the term," Burford said. "We're glad he's officially on staff."
