Committee of diversity panel drafts list of 30 questions
The Task Force on Diversity's staff subcommittee met Wednesday to draft 30 tentative questions that will be used to gain insight into diversity among UNC employees.
The questions will be derived from five broad research questions including how the University publicly embraces and expresses its commitment to diversity and what kinds of opportunities exist on campus for communication.
Cookie Newsom, director of diversity education and research, said the purpose of the questionnaire is to gain insight into the campus diversity environment.
During the meeting, members discussed the effects of hate speech in the community and the level of comfort workers feel expressing their opinions in the workplace.
Task force chairman Archie Ervin said that it is easy to become overwhelmed but that the group will stay focused on its charge.
The staff subcommittee is one of three committees in the task force, which includes a committee for students and faculty. The staff subcommittee will meet again in November.
