Correction
Due to a reporting error, the Nov. 18 brief "UNC's long-distance service goes down for two hours" states that Battery Technology Inc. was contacted to fix the problem. It should have stated that the telecommunications company BTI was contacted.
UNC's long-distance service goes down for two hours
Long-distance phone service went down at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, said Tonya Thomas, supervisor of the customer service area at Student Telecommunication Services. STS does not know what caused the failure.
BellSouth and Battery Technology Inc. were contacted to fix the problem. Service came back up at 2:40 p.m.
Thomas said STS probably will send an e-mail to the University detailing what happened.
