Durham man charged with possession, intent to sell

A Durham man was arrested about midnight Friday and charged with possession with intent to sell and distribute cocaine and marijuana, both felonies, and resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, at the Wallace parking deck on Rosemary St., Chapel Hill police reports state.

According to reports, Louis Eugene Webb Jr., 23, of 34 Five Oaks Drive, was acting suspicious and had an odor of marijuana.

When confronted by officers, Webb attempted to throw his drugs away, reports state.

The drugs, which included 4 grams of marijuana and 1.5 grams of cocaine, were found by the K-9 Unit, reports state. Police also seized $340 in cash.

Webb was taken to Orange County Jail to be held on a $10,000 secured bond. He was to appear in Orange County District Criminal Court in Hillsborough on Friday.

2 local men charged with possession of marijuana

A traffic stop Friday evening resulted in the arrest of two area men, including a 17-year-old student at East Chapel Hill High School, and the seizure of 9.7 grams of marijuana, Chapel Hill police reports state.

According to reports, Maurice Antonio Powell, 20, and Maurice "Moe" Burnette, 17, were stopped about 8 p.m. in a 1994 Isuzu Trooper traveling down Johnson Street.

Officers found 8 grams of marijuana on Powell and 1.7 grams on Burnette, reports state, and both were charged with misdemeanor possession.

The two were remanded to the Orange County Jail on separate $500 secured bonds. They also were given street restrictions and trespassed from all public housing.

They are set to appear Dec. 13 in District Superior Court in Hillsborough.

Chapel Hill man charged with multiple misdemeanors

A Chapel Hill man was arrested at 8:45 p.m. Saturday and charged with assault on a government official, communicating threats, being drunk and disruptive, resisting arrest and probation violation, all misdemeanors, Chapel Hill police reports state.

According to reports, Clifton Richard Mather, 49, was arrested at his residence at 822 Ward St.

He initially was given a $20,000 secured bond, reports state, but it was reduced to unsecured after Mather was admitted to UNC Hospitals for evaluation.

The state Department of Corrections will be serving probation violation papers at a later time, reports state.

Mather will appear Nov. 22 in Orange County District Criminal Court in Hillsborough.

2 UNC students assaulted in separate weekend incidents

Several UNC students were assaulted in two separate incidents this weekend, Chapel Hill police reports state.

According to reports, a 19-year-old Granville Towers resident was struck in the face, causing severe cuts, at midnight Friday in the Avalon nightclub at 306 W. Franklin St.

In another assault, a female UNC junior was punched in the nose at 2:15 a.m. Sunday in the road at 157 E. Franklin St., leading to minor injuries, reports state.
