Freshman arrested, charged with multiple drug violations
A UNC freshman was arrested at 8:30 p.m. Saturday and charged with one count of felony breaking and entering, two counts of felony possession of schedule II drugs and one count of misdemeanor manufacturing of schedule IV drugs, Chapel Hill police reports state.
According to reports, Joshua Blake Caldwell, 20, was arrested at 2424 Granville Towers South on warrants taken out earlier that day.
Reports did not indicate for which drugs Caldwell was arrested, but Sgt. Steve Riddle of Chapel Hill police said that schedule II drugs include "strong opiate-based narcotics with minimal medicinal uses."
According to the North Carolina Controlled Substances Act, schedule II drugs include cocaine, codeine, hyrdocodone, opium and methamphetamines.
Riddle said lower schedule numbers indicate a stronger effect on the body, with less medicinal potential.
Caldwell was released on a written promise to appear today in Orange County District Criminal Court in Hillsborough.
