Groundskeeper charged with theft of chain saw
A groundskeeper for the town of Carrboro was arrested at 9:25 a.m. Monday and charged with felony larceny by an employee and resist, delay and obstruct - a misdemeanor - for stealing a chain saw valued at $550 from the town's Department of Public Works, Carrboro police reports state.
According to reports, the chain saw was reported stolen Nov. 11, and the investigation led to Phillip Owen Jones, 39, of 4802 Old U.S. 1 in Moncure.
When the police tried to serve the warrant for larceny, he reportedly ran, resulting in the addition of the misdemeanor charge.
Jones was taken to Orange County Jail to be held on a $500 secured bond.
He was to appear at the first opportunity Monday at Orange County District Criminal Court in Hillsborough.
Police search for man who tried to cash counterfeit bill
In an incident of forgery and uttering that led to assault, an unknown suspect tossed items off a gas station counter at the clerk who refused to cash a fake $20 bill, Carrboro police reports state.
According to reports, the incident occurred at 9:50 a.m. Monday at the Kangaroo Express at 500 Jones Ferry Road.
