Liberal commentator to hit UNC in live radio broadcast

Longtime “Saturday Night Live” writer and performer and radio talk show host Al Franken will bring his liberal politics to the University next month.

“The Al Franken Show,” which he hosts with Katherine Lanpher for the liberal radio network Air America, will broadcast live from noon to 3 p.m. April 13 in the Student Union auditorium.

The show airs weekdays between those times on 1360 WCHL-AM.

“The community response has been so positive,” said WCHL station manager Christy Dixon. “We’re so excited — come out.”

The Union auditorium holds about 375 people.

Franken is scheduled to do some book signings and appearances with local media after the show.

The Young Professionals Network, sponsored by AXA Advisors LLC, will meet for the first time from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Off Franklin Bar & Grill on Henderson Street.

The program offers professionals younger than 40 access to educational workshops and networking opportunities with other area professionals.

Thursday’s meeting will provide an introduction to the network and an outline of future agendas.
