Carrboro Elementary teacher dies Monday unexpectedly

A Carrboro Elementary School teacher passed away unexpectedly Monday night.

Judith Anders taught fourth grade at the school since 1988, and she was described by several of her co-workers as a teacher who loved her job and cared for her students.

Students have planned to participate in a memorial led by the Duke University Unicorn Bereavement Center.

Students also will receive a balloon, fulfilling a wish of Anders to give one to each child in her class.

A memorial poster created by her students now hangs on the classroom door.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas More Church.

Anders is survived by her husband, Ron, and sons, Matthew and Mark.

Community art project to put its wares on display

Locals can get a glimpse at art around the community tonight.

Venues involved in Dream, the Chapel Hill Public Arts Commission’s community art project, will stay open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for tours.

Eight locations are involved in the tour, including the Chapel Hill Public Library, the Chapel Hill Museum, Chapel Hill Town Hall and Carrboro Town Hall.

The exhibit displays more than 300 artworks created by local residents.

The artworks will be on display through May 27.
