BOG appoints Ponder as the chancellor of UNC-Asheville
The UNC-system Board of Governors elected Anne Ponder chancellor at UNC-Asheville.
Ponder, a UNC-Chapel Hill alumnus, most recently served as president of Colby-Sawyer College in New London, N.H. UNC-system president Molly Broad nominated her during a special meeting of the board May 12.
Ponder will assume the post October 1, succeeding James Mullen, Jr., who is stepping down to become president of Our Lady of the Elms College in Massachusetts. Board recommended the North Carolinian to the board with glowing praise.
“Anne Ponder brings to UNC- Asheville a deep-rooted love of the region, a solid reputation as an energetic and creative administrator, and a passionate belief in the enduring value of liberal arts education,” Broad said during the meeting, according to a press release.
“We are most fortunate to gain a leader with this wealth of talent, enthusiasm, and commitment.”
Ponder, who grew up in Asheville, received an undergraduate degree from UNC-CH in 1971, and later earned her master’s and doctoral degrees at the University.
