Didow will not seek fourth term for city school board

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School board member Nick Didow announced recently that he will not be seeking another term on the city school board. The three-term board member said he might be a candidate for local, state or national office in 2006.

Didow said he potentially would considering running for a seat in the N.C. General Assembly or the U.S. House of Representatives but would not challenge incumbents like Sen. Ellie Kinnaird, D-Orange, Rep. Joe Hackney, D-Orange or David Price, D-N.C.

“I would only consider pursuing those seats if on of those individuals, for whatever reason, chose not to run for re-election in 2006,” he said.

He said he might consider running for a seat on the Orange County Board of Commissioners, as well.

In Carrboro, the Board of Aldermen race is heating up.

Randee Haven-O’donnell filed last week. So far, she is one of four candidates in the election for three open seats.

And in Hillsborough, Mayor Joe Phelps filed for re-election. Incumbents on the Town Board Frances Dancy and Mike Gering also have filed.

Education board will hold interest meeting at 5 p.m.

The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Board of Education is holding an information session today for those interested in serving as a board member.

The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at Lincoln Center prior to the school board’s schedule meeting.

Those interested in attending are asked to call 967-8211, ext. 226 or 214 to sign up for the session.

Three seats on the board will expire this year.
