Club's barbecue fundraiser raises funds for area projects

The Kiwanis Club of Chapel Hill-Carrboro is holding its 18th-annual BBQ Cook-off fundraiser in the University Mall parking lot from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $7, and 50 percent of the funds raised will go to the club.

The funds will support Kiwanis International's "Disaster Relief Fund" for Katrina victims as well as other local service projects.

 

El Centro Latino to hold first soccer tournament Saturday

The first El Centro Latino Torneo Independencia, an all-star soccer tournament and event for the whole family, will be held 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel Hill High School soccer field.

All proceeds from the event will go to El Centro Latino, a nonprofit organization committed to improving the quality of life for Latinos in and around Orange County.
