Today is the last day students can drop courses via the web registration system. It must be done by 5 p.m. This is also the last opportunity students have to reduce their course load (but not to drop all classes) and have tuition adjusted.

 

"Petals and Buds - pastels by Patricia Savage" will be on display from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today in the Totten Center Classroom. Savage is an instructor for the N.C. Botanical Garden's illustration courses. She uses chalk pastel to paint plants and wildlife.

 

Zorba's Restaurant, 105 S. Elliott Rd., will donate all profits today to the American Red Cross to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina. The restaurant will be open from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, call (919) 967-5517.

 

Emma Skurnick will teach a field sketching class from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. today at the Totten Center Classroom. Contact Shanna Oberreiter for fee and registration information at 919-962-0522.

 

The Chapel Hill Town Council will meet at 7 p.m. tonight in Town Hall, 405 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. They will discuss inclusionary zoning and various traffic measures, among other issues.

 

"Beneath the Underground" film screening is an alternative venue for grassroots moviegoers held in the basement of the Stone Center. Tonight's opening session, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will feature "Girl Beat: The Power of the Drum" by Suzanne Girot. The film is a profile of Banda Dida, an all-girl drumming and vocal group from Brazil.

 

N.C. Representatives Joe Hackney, D-Orange, and Grier Martin, D-Wake, will speak to the Young Democrats at 8 p.m. tonight in the Union Auditorium. Dues will be collected and T-shirts distributed to members.

 

The UNC Dance Marathon now is accepting applications for committee members. Applications are due at 5 p.m. Friday. Go to www.uncmarathon.org to download the form and to learn more about the event.

 

The Loreleis, an all-female a cappella group, is holding auditions today and Tuesday. Sign up in the Pit or at the magazine rack in the Student Union. Callbacks will be held Wednesday.

 

University Career Services will host a part-time job fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Great Hall of the Student Union. Some employers to attend include A Southern Season, Blockbuster and Mary Kay Cosmetics. The Chapel Hill Police Department will open a substation at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at University Square. Mayor Kevin Foy will officially open the department's fourth substation.
