  • Expressions, at 137 E. Franklin St., reported at 9:44 p.m. Monday that it was the victim of a breaking and entering, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Reports state that a suspect gained entry through the ceiling, causing $200 worth of damage.
  • A 20-year-old Chapel Hill man was arrested on charges of assault at 9:53 a.m. Tuesday at Henderson and East Rosemary streets, Chapel Hill police reports state. Steve Ramirez, of 1128 Old Saw Mill Road, pointed a knife at a victim in an act of simple assault, reports state. Ramirez was released on written promise and was scheduled to appear in District Criminal Court on April 24.
  • A tag was reported stolen from a taxi van at 1250 Ephesus Church Road on Tuesday afternoon, Chapel Hill police reports state. According to reports, Destiny Transportation Inc. was the victim of larceny. The value of the stolen item was $50, reports state.
  • A 42-year-old Durham man was arrested on drug-related charges at 2:56 a.m. Wednesday on East Franklin Street, Chapel Hill police reports state. Thomas Jefferson Steele was arrested on felony charges of drug possession, misdemeanor charges of driving without a license and not having liability insurance, reports state. According to reports, Steele had 10 Adderall pills and a vial with crack-cocaine residue in his possession. He was given a $2,500 bond and was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.
  • Chapel Hill police are investigating an embezzlement at Carolina Ophthalmology, at 55 Vilcom Circle, according to Chapel Hill police reports. Reports state that $32,000 was stolen from the business.
  • Police arrested a man on charges of trespassing Tuesday morning in Carmichael Auditorium, according to University police reports. George Lee Byrd, 43, of 1717 Purefoy Road was heard coughing at about 3:30 a.m. in the attic of the building by a UNC employee, who then called campus officers, police reports state. Officers found Byrd sleeping in the attic. Byrd told the officers he had played basketball in Fetzer Gym and took a shower earlier that evening before going to the attic to sleep, police reports state. Byrd was trespassed from the campus, police reports state.
