Student government holds first open house

All branches look to add members

  • The judicial branch is composed of the student attorney general's office and the Honor Court. The Honor Court will not be recruiting until the spring semester. The student attorney general's office is hiring counsel to represent or prosecute alleged Honor Code violators. The Honor System Outreach Committee, which raises student awareness of the Honor Code, will be accepting new students this semester, said senior Laura Lilly, honor system outreach coordinator. Applications for the attorney general's staff can be found online starting Oct. 1 and are due Oct. 15. Recruitment is rolling for honor system outreach members. Information can be found at honor.unc.edu.
  • The Board of Elections is responsible for running the fall Homecoming elections and the general campus elections in February. Board chairman Jim Brewer said one of the primary concerns of the 10-member board is increasing voter turnout each year. For most of the year the board meets once a week to discuss each member's individual project - but election season is busier, he said. "It gets strenuous during elections," Brewer said, "But we do try to have fun." Applications can be found at studentorgs.unc.edu/boe. They are due Sept. 8.
