TO THE EDITOR:
I was appalled by The Daily Tar Heel's claim of the ""historic"" election (""Historic Homecoming Election"" Nov. 10). This was a direct mockery of the truly historical presidential election. (Yes, more people voted in this election than ever before, but still the amount of participants falls far below 20 percent of all students.) This isn't historic."" The DTH also offered Jeremy Crouthamel exclusive coverage during the election week.
(Editor's note: The DTH ran profiles of all six Homecoming candidates on Nov. 3.)
In the same article"" the paper referenced candidates as waving ""campaign signs featuring Barack Obama to attract students' attention away from Tuesday's nationwide election."" The intent of these posters wasn't to attract student attention from the election" but toward the election and important dialogue surrounding race issues. This past homecoming election clearly represents that racism is alive and well on this campus.
