Swimming & diving

The North Carolina women's swimming and diving teams placed second in the ACC Championships this weekend finishing 246.5 points behind champion Virginia who won for the second consecutive year.

UNC freshman Layne Brodie broke the ACC record in the 200-yard breaststroke one of 15 ACC marks set this weekend. Three other swimmers garnered second-place finishes.

With her record-breaking swim Brodie also became the first Tar Heel swimmer this year to earn an automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Championships next month.

Softball

The North Carolina softball team finished a five-game weekend tournament with a 4-1 record improving to 12-3 on the year.

Coach Donna Papa earned her 900th win in a 5-2-0 triumph against Cal State Fullerton in the Palm Springs Classic off a no-hitter from starting pitcher Lisa Norris.

The Tar Heels finished with wins against Oregon State Cal State Oregon and Kansas and one loss to Fresno State.

UNC returns to Chapel Hill to play a doubleheader against UNC-Greensboro on Wednesday.

Football

North Carolina receiver Brooks Foster participating at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis this weekend put on quite a show Sunday in the bench press category.

Players are asked to bench press 225 pounds as many times as they can and Foster led all competitors with 27 reps. Kenny Britt a receiver at Rutgers came in second with 23.
