TO THE EDITOR:
The Daily Tar Heel editorial board's reaction to a potential ban/restriction on new drive-throughs in Orange County (Put the brakes on ban"" Feb. 26) made some compelling points, including the following:
Chapel Hill's reputation for environmental sensitivity"" is actually a ""stigma of snobbery.""
Contrary to what you may have learned in your science classes"" attempts to restrict ""the harmful effects of minor auto emissions"" are ""absurd"" and ""granola-esque"" arguments. Orange County's ""local businesses"" such as Wendy's"" and ""Starbucks"" would suffer under the ban.
Banning or restricting new drive-throughs at corporate businesses is a typically elitist attempt at ""aesthetic perfection"" and ""splendor.""
Convenient fast-food for our citizens is a right that must be protected from ""environmental fanatics and architectural snobs"" who should get over"" themselves and let us eat our Big Macs" in our cars in peace.
If these arguments make no sense to you then you are probably thinking critically.
You might also be thinking that banning new drive-throughs in Orange County is a good idea a step in the right direction for more sustainable development in the Triangle and not such a travesty after all.
