The Daily Tar Heel

Celebrate our University with respect and integrity

TO THE EDITOR:

After a record-breaking championship game I watched a drunken sea of Carolina blue weave its way to Franklin Street and proceed to act like a group of crazed animals. Students set fire to every flammable item in sight tore the limbs off trees dismantled traffic signals destroyed street signs and caused complete chaos.

Worst of all I saw a number of young women sexually assaulted and harassed by men in the middle of the melee. These female students were trying to celebrate the Tar Heel victory but were instead fondled and had their crotches grabbed and skirts lifted. Crowds of people watched as all of this occurred and no one did anything to stop it.

Rather they chose to follow the procession and encourage the disgustingly sexist and misogynistic behavior that was occurring.

We are privileged to live in a town with an amazing University a beautiful downtown and a tight-knit community that claims to care for itself.

Destroying everything you put your hands on isn't a good way to reciprocate your appreciation. If the students responsible for these actions want the University to have the reputation of being a bloodthirsty nihilistic campus that's fine by me. But I'm revoking my status of Tar Heel.
