TO THE EDITOR:
As a resident and homeowner in the Northside neighborhood" I am disappointed with The Daily Tar Heel's article" ""Students push out owners"" (April 9).
First" the characterization of Northside comprising only of black homeowners and white student renters is inaccurate; many new Northside residents are neither white nor black have no affiliation to UNC-Chapel Hill and own their homes.
Second few Northside homeowners complain that their homes are worth substantially more than five 10 and 20 years ago.
And last suggesting that Northside" serving a ""university that needs janitors and chefs"" may be something worth saving"" smacks of ghettoization.
Why have so many of Northside's children moved away? Probably because they wanted to do more than clean and cook for you.
Advocating that Northside be insulated from social and economic change in order to preserve the University's labor pool is insulting and disturbing.
