DURHAM -- The North Carolina baseball team moved to 1-1 in round-robin pool play in the ACC Tournament with a 11-1 loss to No. 14 Virginia on Friday.
The Tar Heels gave up 10 runs in a crushing third inning. Starting pitcher Alex White who took only eight pitches to get through the second gave up a double to Virginia's Tyler Cannon to start if off.
White then gave up five more hits and walked in two runs before being pulled for Brian Moran" who faced another six batters before he got the last two outs.
""You wake up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night dreaming about those kind of innings at times where you just cannot get an out"" coach Mike Fox said. You can't get the first one; you can't get the second one; can't get the third one.""
The lone run for No. 4 UNC came off a Levi Michael homer in the fifth that cleared the left field wall – nicknamed ""The Blue Monster"" – at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. The Tar Heels continue play 4 p.m. Saturday against Clemson.
A win by Duke against Virginia and a North Carolina win would put the Tar Heels in the 1 p.m. Sunday final. Florida State has already qualified for the championship game.
