A cyclist traveling southbound on Raleigh Road sustained minor injuries to his wrist after being hit by a Chapel Hill Transit bus at 7:46 a.m.
Randy Young, spokesman for the UNC Department of Safety, could not provide the name of the bus driver, saying only that the driver has been cited for improper passing. He added that the cyclist did not require immediate hospitalization.
"He has no life-threatening injuries," Young said.
The cyclist had just passed the intersection of Raleigh Road and Cameron Drive when the back of the bus hit his handle bars as it merged into the right-hand lane.
Bus drivers are required to keep a distance of at least two feet while passing a pedestrian or vehicle.
