Hip-hop artist Fabolous will perform Sunday as the headliner for the Homecoming 2009 concert.
The announcement came today, and tickets are on sale now at the Memorial Hall Box Office and online at memorialhall.unc.edu. Tickets are $15 for students and $30 for the general public. General public tickets go on sale on Thursday.
Fabolous first gained national attention with his 2001 single “Can’t Deny It.” He has completed several other albums and has gained success for his recent song “Make Me Better” which features Ne-Yo.
Amanda Kao, president of the Carolina Union Activities Board and member of the committee that selected the act, said students expressed interest in having a hip-hop or rap artist.
“It seems like hip hop is a pretty broad genre for our campus,” she said, adding that Fabolous is a big name and someone people would recognize from the radio.
In the past there have been two Homecoming shows, but this year Fabolous is the only headliner.
“In the past we’ve done two, but we thought it would be OK to just bring someone huge,” Kao said.
