No. 12 North Carolina used the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs for a post-loss rebound, dominating the Bulldogs in a 93-72 win Monday night at the Smith Center.
Deon Thompson lead UNC with 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Ed Davis chipped in 15 points and 13 rebounds in the win. Tyler Zeller added 16.
UNC (5-1) outrebounded the undersized Gardner-Webb (3-1) squad by 18 — holding a 50-32 advantage on the boards.
Gardner-Webb was limited to just 12 points in the paint, while UNC had 58.
UNC won the game after dropping its first contest of the season Friday night against Syracuse in Madison Square Garden for the 2K Sports Classic finals. The Bulldogs, with just one player taller than 6-foot-8, put up substantially less of a challenge.
But the story of the game, despite the losing effort, was GW guard Grayson Flittner putting up nine three-pointers for a game-high 32 points. Flittner shot 10-for-19 for the game and added six assists.
