RALEIGH — No. 23 North Carolina opened up its regular-season finale against N.C. State gunning on all cylinders. The Wolfpack closed the game that way.
NCSU (5-7, 2-6 ACC) took a 28-27 come-from-behind victory on senior day against the Tar Heels on Russell Wilson's 38-yard touchdown strike to Owen Spencer with 14:31 remaining in the game.
Wilson finished 20-for-27 with 259 yards and four touchdowns. UNC quarterback T.J. Yates threw for a season-high 280 yards and two touchdowns, both to freshman Jheranie Boyd.
UNC (8-4, 4-4) opened up a 24-14 lead in the first half, but the Wolfpack came howling back with a Wilson's first score to Spencer with 10 minutes remaining in the third quarter.
The Tar Heels also racked up 178 yards on the ground, led by Johnny White. White rushed for 83 yards on seven carries, including his first career rushing touchdown on a 40-yard scamper.
